A young girl who took out the top prize in an anti-litter poster campaign can now see her unique artwork displayed on her local council’s website.

Sarah Casey, 10, who attends Gowrie Outside of School Hours Care Gladesville (OSHC) centre, won in her age category in the Anti-Litter School Poster competition, organised by The City of Ryde Council.

Maria Illardi, Coordinator at Gowrie OSHC Gladesville, said they are all very proud of Sarah’s achievement in winning the competition.

“Sarah’s amazing artwork to encourage people not to litter is a great opportunity for her to educate the local community about the damaging effects it has on the environment,” Maria said.

The aim of the poster competition is to inform, educate and encourage people to not litter in public spaces because of the detrimental impact it has on the local community and environment.

All children living or studying in Gladesville, Putney and Tennyson Point were invited to design an anti-littering themed poster. There were four winners for age categories 3-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18.

The posters were judged by the waste department team from the council, based on relevance to the anti-littering theme.

Sarah’s creative and colourful poster encouraging people to place litter in the bin was originally unveiled at a Mural Launch event held by the Ryde Council and is now permanently displayed on the council’s website.

All four winners also received a certificate and $20 voucher for their efforts.
