Local children from Mudgee have discovered new ways of getting involved in conservation and sustainability thanks to a generous grant provided by Telstra Kids Fund.

Gowrie NSW is now able to give local kids the tools they need to become future environmental leaders through the implementation of a worm farm, compost bin and water tank in the Lady Gowrie Mudgee centre, following a $1,200 donation from Telstra Kids Fund.

“We are very grateful to Telstra Kids Fund for giving us the opportunity to launch our sustainability program within our early child care centre,” said Mandy Edwards, Centre Director, at Lady Gowrie Mudgee.

“It is wonderful to be able to offer young children in the centre an experience which will allow them to develop an appreciation and care for the natural environment,” added Ms Edwards.

The sustainability initiative run by the centre aims to promote active learning and student leadership when it comes to caring for the environment. Ms Edwards said helping children to learn about and enjoy the outdoors is at the core of the program.

“At the heart of every Telstra Kids Fund grant is a Telstra employee who nominates a local community activity they value. We would like to offer a huge thanks to Telstra team member Jacqueline Willetts who put us forward for this grant,” said Ms Edwards.

Telstra Kids funds the little things that can make a big difference to children’s lives, helping kids to play and learn.

“We are very excited to share in the money the Telstra Foundation provides each year that benefits children right across Australia,” said Ms Edwards.
