DEVELOPING OUR STRETCH RAP...AND OUR CULTURAL LEARNING GROUND

Gowrie-132

Gowrie NSW embarks on Stretch RAP -  Building Strong Connections

Continuing our journey to reconciliation.

Over the past five years, Gowrie NSW has been dedicated to reconciliation, developing and implementing two Innovate RAPs. These initiatives allowed us to reflect as a team on how and where we can make a meaningful impact on our relationships with First Nations families and communities.

A Space for Learning and Growth

In 2023, we launched the Cultural Learning Ground (CLG), a dedicated space for all Gowrie NSW staff to access information, resources, and training on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. It aims to build awareness and capacity across our organisation, fostering a safe and welcoming environment where culturally inclusive practices are at the forefront of our planning, programming, and conversations

The Cultural Learning Ground enriches the people in our organisation, and the children in our care.

The Benefits of a Stretch RAP

In 2024, we are embarking on our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) journey, to deepen our commitment to reconciliation and make a tangible impact on fostering stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. By implementing a Stretch RAP, Gowrie NSW can:

  • Demonstrate Leadership: Showcase pour dedication to social responsibility and cultural inclusivity, cementing our positions as thought leaders in the early childhood education sector.
  • Enhance Educational Programs: Integrate Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into our curriculum, providing a richer, more diverse learning experience for children.
  • Build Stronger Relationships: Foster meaningful connections with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, promoting mutual respect and understanding.
  • Support Equity and Inclusion: Contribute to the broader goals of equality and equity by actively addressing past injustices and creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
  • Attract and Retain Staff: Create an inclusive workplace that values diversity, helping to attract and retain talented staff who are passionate about reconciliation.
  • Engage Families and Communities: Engage families and the broader community in reconciliation activities, building a supportive network that values cultural diversity.

By committing to a Stretch RAP, Gowrie NSW not only strengthens our organisational values but also plays a crucial role in contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.

The opportunities provided by the Cultural Learning Ground are invaluable, benefiting educators, teachers, children, and families alike. By deepening our understanding and appreciation of First Nations cultures, we are better equipped to create inclusive and respectful learning environments for all.

Cultural Learning Ground

 - for educators and teachers

Ultimately, our goal is to create a space where every child feels included and secure. By acknowledging and celebrating each family’s unique context, we promote a sense of wellbeing and self-confidence in our children. This inclusive approach not only benefits the children but also enriches our entire community, teaching everyone the values of empathy, respect, and care.

 - for children and Families

Children and families benefit from a learning environment that celebrates and respects diversity. The knowledge and practices gained through the Cultural Learning Ground help foster a sense of belonging and understanding, enriching the educational experience for all.
