The Gowrie NSW Erskineville Early Education & Care philosophy is underpinned by its deep commitment to building a community that shares a cooperative spirit, honours diversity and recognises children as full members of our human society.

Initially established as a kindergarten in 1940, Gowrie NSW Erskineville Early Education & Care offers early education and care for children aged between 6 weeks and school age.

It is our intention to encourage children to become active learners in secure, calm, safe play spaces that encourage thinking, investigation, exploration and problem-solving. Our qualified educators observe and hypothesise with children to reflect and provide learning opportunities that promote ongoing curiosity and development of each child’s skills and thinking. Our environments are places where families and educators can be reassured by the joyful sounds of children’s discoveries.

Our Centre values the importance of authentic relationships with children and families that are developed through respect, inclusion and collaboration. Families are welcomed and encouraged to participate in our programs, sharing stories and skills to be part of the fabric of our Centre and learning community. We strive to support children’s social and emotional wellbeing with the foundations of trusting relationships with other children, our available and nurturing educators and our broader community.

Our inner city Erskineville centre has large outdoor learning spaces with well established trees and natural elements for children to explore. The philosophy of the Centre places importance on respect for our natural environments and resources. We have a commitment to encourage sustainable practises.

Our outdoor areas include places for mud play, worm farms, flourishing vegetable patches etc where through harvesting of vegetables, measuring of worm juice , containers are balanced, weighed and measured and filled with mud or leaves or captured rainwater- children not only learn about the environment but also numeracy and literacy. Dramatic and imaginary play as mud becomes chocolate cake, hot chocolate, dinner and other delicious creations and social skills are refined as children share and negotiate the use of gumboots and objects.

Our children are our greatest hope... every thinking person must realise that when this bitter strife is over we must build up a better world, and it is only through the children that this can be done.
