Event description

During this hands on workshop participants will consider young children’s learning in the area of STEM.  In particular Kate will discuss children’s use of technology in learning, problem solving and play.

There will be opportunities to explore:

  • STEM: intentional teaching, projects and play based learning
  • Children’s engagement with mobile and tablet devices to extend learning
  • The use of Apps to help make learning visible
  • The teacher’s role in STEM in 0-5 and K-2 contexts

Participants are encouraged to bring along mobile devices to engage in this hands on workshop.

Who should attend: all educators working in early and middle childhood

About the presenter:

Dr Kate Highfield, a RIPPLE Research Fellow at Charles Sturt University, has worked as a classroom teacher with a strong commitment to young children’s use of technology in learning, problem solving and play. Kate’s PhD research examined young children’s use of programmable toys in the development of early mathematical understandings. Kate’s current research is examining the use of technology for learning and play and the use of technology as a tool to enhance learning. This work also examines a range of traditional and mobile technologies.
