Event description

This day will include the following two sessions

Introduction to Mindfulness (NESA)

Over the past 20 years, Australian society has become increasingly aware of the importance of sound mental and physical health. This introductory session explores one particular area of enhancing well being, the concept of mindfulness, defined as “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experiences moment by moment” (Hooker and Fodor, 2008).

This session will include:

·         Introduction to the concepts that underpin mindfulness

·         Setting the scene for a mindful environment

·         Understand the benefits of practicing mindfulness with children

Completing ‘Introduction to Mindfulness’ will contribute 3 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 4.2.2 from The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW

Understanding children’s behaviour (NESA)

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) expects that ‘Children learn to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect’ (p.24). At times, we are challenged by some children’s behaviour and need to extend our understanding of ways to guide behaviour and encourage children’s positive interactions. This session will examine the importance of developing and supporting children’s overall wellbeing to facilitate behaviour positively and build well-functioning relationships.

This session will include:

·         Identifying the positive outcomes we wish to achieve in our services

·         Exploring what behaviours challenge us

·         Determining and reviewing the influences on a child’s behaviour

·         Reviewing successful strategies for ongoing implementation.

Completing ‘Understanding Children’s Behaviour’ will contribute 3 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 4.1.2 and 7.2.2 from The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Our children are our greatest hope... every thinking person must realise that when this bitter strife is over we must build up a better world, and it is only through the children that this can be done.
