Event description

An opportunity to more deeply consider what it is that educators do when they are more intentional in the way they observe children at play.

This session will include:

  • Noticing - how do we gather information
  • Recognising - interpreting observations and identifying the learning
  • Responding - looking at strategies to support and enrich the learning we observe

About the presenter:

As a Consultant for the Education Hub at Gowrie NSW, Jessica Horne-Kennedy brings a strong background of knowledge drawn from her experiences as an early childhood teacher and director.  Jessica has also worked as a co-ordinator providing advice and guidance on areas of practice such as: preparing Quality Improvement Plans, documentation, philosophy development, children’s play, and preparing for an assessment and rating visit.  For Jessica, the relationship is the heart of the process and building relationships children, individuals and teams provides the basis for mentoring that is responsive to both the needs and goals of the service and creates an experience that is both empowering and fulfilling. 

Jessica holds a Masters in Education with honours from the University of New England, Australia.  The narrative research presented in her thesis explored how the beliefs held by Rudolf Steiner early childhood educators influence their practices of forming relationships with children in their first year of attending preschool.  Prior to working in early childhood, Jessica trained and practiced as a visual artist and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Otago Art School in New Zealand.

Meaningful Observations: Notice, Recognise, Respond will contribute 5 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 5.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
